Nepalese working in Iraq to be repatriated
Some 30,000 Nepalese working in various companies in Iraq will be repatriated following the directives of US Central Command in Iraq, Nagarik daily reported.
The US Central Command wrote to all companies hiring Nepalese and Pilipino workers in Iraq on Tuesday and asked them to repatriate them within 20 days.
The Command has asked the companies to ensure that they are following the international laws and existing laws in Iraq, US and the home country of the migrant workers while hiring foreign workers. It has warned to take stringent action against companies not complying with these laws.
Nepalese workers working in Iraq migrated to Iraq illegally as Nepal has banned Nepalese citizens from going to Iraq for work.
Nepal banned its citizens from going to Iraq after 12 Nepalese were brutally slain by an Islamic radical group in August, 2004.
Some 30,000 Nepalese have gone to Iraq for work through illegal channels.
