A man has died after an attacker stabbed passers-by in a Paris suburb on Friday afternoon, French police said.
At least two other people were injured, including one severely.
Police said they later killed the suspect in a nearby town.
The attack happened in the Hautes-Bruyeres park in Villejuif, to the south of the French capital, and the attacker was shot in L’Haÿ-les-Roses.
He had “fled to the Carrefour shopping centre in L’Haÿ-les-Roses, where he visibly wanted to continue his attacks”, the mayor of L’Haÿ-les-Roses, Vincent Jeanbrun, said on French TV.
“Fortunately, the police could quickly go to the scene and neutralise the attacker”, Jeanbrun added.
Laure Beccuau, the prosecutor for the Creteil area which includes Villejuif, told the AFP that the suspect had “tried to attack other victims who managed to escape him”.
“Unfortunately, he did attack three people and one of them has died”, Beccuau said during a press conference at the scene.
The two injured are being cared for in different hospitals in the Villejuif area. AFP reported that the severely injured victim is a man, and the other a woman.
